Scouting is an international youth movement with a purpose - to give our young people the opportunity to develop as responsible citizens of this planet through an outdoor based programme of fun, friendship and challenges.

The Scout method is making a personal commitment to a simple code of living, the Scout Promise and the Scout Law. It involves active participation in small groups to develop leadership and group skills and individual responsibility.

Scouting is an out of school educational movement that enables young people so that they can undertake adventuruous and challenging activities with others - activities that will develop positive characteristics, improve their mental, teamwork and creative skills and allow them to have a greater understanding of the world in which we live and the environments and people that make that world. In St. Oliver's Group, we strongly believe this and always keep this in mind when we are developing and delivering our various Scouting programs.

The Scouting Movement was founded in 1907 and has never stopped growing. There will be major international celebrations at the centenary of the founding in 2007. There are recognized Scout Associations in over 200 countries worldwide with over 25 million members.

The programme of Scouting has one fundamental dimension which determines how it is carried out. This is known as the Scout Method. It is a system of progressive self-education through:

-A Promise & Law
-Learning by Doing
-Membership of Small Groups
-Progressive programming involving an outdoor setting

St. Oliver's Group has been continuously active in the community since 1935 starting off with a mere 8 members. Since then the Group has grown continuously and to this today provides an active programme for its members through a combination of weekly meetings and outdoor activities. The Group caters for all elements in the Scout programme from the ages of 6 to 18 years.

Take a look around this site and hopefully you will get an insight into a Scout Group with a proud tradition in serving the young people of Drogheda and an active member of the worldwide Scouting community.
