Cub Scouting is a fun and adventurous programme for young people 8 - 11 years of age. Cub Scouts are encouraged to work, play and grow together through a programme of games, crafts, nature study and activities in the outdoors designed to match the vivid imagination of young people of this age.
The idea of Scouting is to teach children some "life skills", to become positive contributors to the local and wider community in future life.
Cubs from our Group at National Cub Day

As a Cub Scout a young person becomes a member of a `six' (a group of up to 6 Cub Scouts) within a Cub Pack (4 or 5 sixes).
Cub Scouting is about fun, adventure, and challenge but it is also about learning by doing. This is achieved in a number of ways:

1. Working in small groups (sixes).
2. Working on projects
3. Fun and adventurous outdoor activities
designed to reinforce skills gained as part of the programme.

St. Oliver's Scout Group has two Cubs Packs. 3rd Louth Cubs meet on Wednesday and 4th Louth Cubs meet on Thursday evening. The two Packs also have regular outdoor activities at weekends. Since the first Cub Pack was formed in 1963, Cub Scouting has played a prominent part in the life of our Unit and has always had an active and varied programme.
Our two Cub packs are active and successful both on a Regional and National level and serve our Unit with distinction at these events. At their Annual Camp in Larch Hill in 2005, they were awarded top Cub Camp of the event. The Cubs also won the Regional Cub Competitions. One of our Cubs Stephen Levins won the National Christmas Card Verse Competition and his winning entry was displayed on the Lord Mayor of Dublin's Christmas card.
There are a lot of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, hiking and collecting.
Cub Scouts alsoget to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, hikes to forests or a farm.

Sometimes they will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack. This will mean sleeping in a tent and participating in outdoor activities.

The Cub Scout Discovery Trail is a handbook for use by our Cubs. It is the Badge Award Scheme and is designed to challenge the Cub Scouts from everything they learn within the Cub section. The Badges are given out through the completion of different areas.
The main badges are The Bronze Sliver and Gold arrows. This covers the simple things like making the dinner to learning sign language and making bread on an outdoor fire.
